My child has never been to nursery before – how will they settle in?
We understand that joining the nursery for the first time can bring lots of questions and anxiety, so we have developed a two-week settling in programme to make sure your child gets the reassurance they need to feel settled, before they are due to start with us. This two-week programme is completely free and allows you to take the time you need, to feel comfortable leaving your child at the nursery for the first time.
We start with one-hour sessions for you to attend with your child. During these sessions you’ll both get to know your key person who will be looking after your child and planning their develop journeys with you. Together you will build up the sessions and develop the key person – child bond so that they feel safe and comfortable to stay for a 9.30am - 3.00pm session by the end of the second week.
-
Who will be looking after my child?
Our room practitioners are experienced childcare professionals, thoroughly vetted and at least level 3 qualified in early years education. They are led by the nursery manager who has over ten years’ experience and is level 6 qualified and a special educational needs co-ordinator (SENCO).
Your child will be allocated a dedicated key person who works with a set small group of children. Your key person will work closely with you to develop a learning journey specific to your child’s needs.

Learning & development
-
What activities will my child be doing during the nursery day?
Your child’s designated key person, will work closely with them and you to plan, observe, and assesses their progress towards the Early Learning Goals. Engaging topical themes are used to help the children to make sense of the world around them.
Activities include playing with age-appropriate resources such as toys and books, listening and participating in storytelling, taking part in art and craft activities, singing along and playing instruments in music sessions, and going on outside walks.
We complete a daily report to keep you informed of you of your child’s day along with a communication book for you to use at home to communicate with us.
-
What is the curriculum?
We follow the Birth to Five framework from the Department of Health which focuses on personal, social, and emotional development.
We believe that children thrive when they feel secure in their surroundings, therefore we focus on creating an environment that is nurturing and supportive.
Through play the children develop their communication, language and physical abilities in an environment that is both fun and stimulating for them.
We offer drop-in sessions for families to learn how the Birth to Five is implemented and how their input can positively affect their child’s learning and progress.

Keeping you updated
-
How will I know what my child has been doing during the day?
We complete a ‘daily report’ to keep you informed of you of your child’s day including our observations, photos, and videos of what your little one gets up to at the nursery.
You will have your own account on Famly app to see your daily reports, learning logs and updates on key information such as naps, nappy changes, meals as agreed with you.
You can also check in on your little ones by accessing our room cameras through our iWatch portal. Please note access is restricted to the FAMLY app and iWatch portal for safety.
-
How will you update me on my child’s development?
When your child first joins us, we work with you to identify their starting points. This allows us to understand what areas they may need a little support. We complete daily reports on the FAMLY app to share information from their day and update their ‘learning journey’ report with their progress and achievements. Together with you, we discuss how they are settling in and set next steps to work on.
We also publish a Makaton Post every Friday for children to watch over the weekend and continue learning at home. We ask parents to send photos, videos, and observations of their child over the weekend and share them during circle time.
